The purpose of this position is to supervise banks with respect to the governance and management of risks such as counterparty credit, liquidity, market, capital and operational risks.
Detailed Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
· Supervise, oversee and participate in supervisory practices, including to
- monitor banks’ exposure to the above risks;
- ensure the capital adequacy of banks with respect to these risks;
- ensure banks’ risk management practices are adequate;
- contribute to risk-based meetings with banks and their auditors; and
- analyse and interpret risk-based regulatory returns.
· Manage correspondence and maintain electronic records in line with standards.
· Contribute towards attainment of departmental strategic objectives.
· Contribute to special projects in the department.
· Contribute towards the attainment of operational objectives.
Job Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have:
· a Bachelors degree in Commerce , Economics, Science, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting; and
· 2-5 years’ experience in the financial services or financial regulatory sector.
Job related knowledge:
· in-depth knowledge of regulatory frameworks and international standards, such as the Basel Core Principles for Banking Supervision;
· understanding of key issues facing mutual and co-operative banks;
· knowledge of, and experience in, the banking system, financial and banking products, risk models and systems;
· knowledge of relevant risk management practices and standards; and
· knowledge of the Mutual Banks Act 124 of 1993 and the Co-operative Banks Act 40 of 2007 and associated laws and regulations will be an added advantage.

· proficiency in the use of Microsoft (MS) Office products such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
